How a pension is calculated in Serbia

A pension follows the formula of the pension and disability insurance law (Zakon o penzijskom i invalidskom osiguranju). For each year of work, pay is compared with the average pay in Serbia that year: pay equal to the average gives an annual personal coefficient of 1, double pay 2, and at most 5 counts. The annual coefficients added up and divided by the years are the personal coefficient, at most 3.8 (Art. 63, 67 and 78).

The personal coefficient times the pension service gives the personal points, and the personal points times the value of the general point give the pension (Art. 61 and 62). The value of the general point is 1,674.67 dinars from December 2025, and it changes when pensions are indexed, usually from 1 December. At most 45 years of service count (Art. 68), so the highest pension is 3.8 × 45 × 1,674.67 = 286,368.57 dinars. Pay equal to the average (a personal coefficient of 1) and 40 years of service give 40 personal points, a pension of 40 × 1,674.67 = 66,986.80 dinars a month.

A woman's years of insurance are raised by 6% for the amount, but only up to 40 years (Art. 69): 30 years count as 31.8, 38 years as 40, and 40 or more get no increase. A woman who gave birth to a third child also counts two years of special service, and from 2032 six months for one child and a year for two (Art. 60). A pension below the minimum, 31,092.11 dinars for employees and the self-employed, is raised to it, an early pension after its reduction too (Art. 76).

Who can retire

An old-age pension is due at 65 with at least 15 years of insurance, and at any age with 45 years of insurance (Art. 19). Until 2032 women retire a little earlier (Art. 19a):

  • 2026 – 64
  • 2027 – 64 and 2 months
  • 2028 – 64 and 4 months
  • 2029 – 64 and 6 months
  • 2030 – 64 and 8 months
  • 2031 – 64 and 10 months
  • 2032 on – 65, as for men

An early old-age pension is due at 60 with 40 years of insurance (Art. 19b). It is reduced for good by 0.34% for each month before the old-age age, 65 for men and, for women, the age listed above for the year of retiring, by at most 20.4% (Art. 70a, 70b and 70v). A woman retiring at 60 in 2026 loses 16.32%, a man 20.4%. The conditions count years of insurance only, without the 6% or special service.

How the calculator estimates

The calculator compares your gross pay today with the average gross pay for January to August 2026, 164,710 dinars (RZS), and assumes you work without gaps until you retire, with your pay at the same level compared with the average. If you know your personal coefficient, type it and it replaces that comparison. The amount is in today's dinars, at today's value of the general point.

Where the law leaves room, the calculator takes the cautious reading: from 2032 a mother of three or more counts two years of special service, not also the year for two children; a started month before the old-age age counts as a whole month. It does not cover disability or survivors' pensions, accelerated service or service abroad.

The PIO Fund sets the exact amount. Its "Moj staž i penzija" service gives a projection from your own record, with an eID login, and "Kada u penziju?" checks the conditions.
